Birding in McAllen.

If you are a birdwatcher, the area around McAllen (within 50 miles) has many places to go to see birds that are South Texas specialties.

There is a birding center in Edingurgh, north of McAllen.

McAllen is in far south Texas. It is the largest city in Hidalgo County and it is the second largest city in the Rio Grande Valley. Brownsville is larger. It is very near the Rio Grande River which borders Mexico.

The town of McAllen started in the 1850's - it was started by a gentleman named John McAllen. The City of McAllen was incorporated in 1911. It has grown significantly from early days; it is estimated that the city has a population exceeding 130,000.
